About Me
My name is Christopher Mitchell Moody, but everyone who knows me just calls me Mitch. I grew up on a farm in Bullock County, Alabama outside of the city of Montgomery. I graduated in 2014 from Alabama Christian Academy in Montgomery, as Salutatorian of my class and was a National Merit Scholar. I then enrolled in Auburn University, where I studied Political Science with a minor in Community and Civic Engagement. I received my undergraduate degree in August, 2017. I graduated Summa Cum Laude and was designated a University Honors Scholar by the Auburn Honors College. I began my Master’s of Public Administration at Auburn during the last two semesters of my undergraduate degree due to my participation in Auburn’s accelerated program. I graduated from Auburn with a Master’s of Public Administration and Non-profit Certification in May of 2018. All told I completed both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in four years. Outside of class, I was very active in social justice organizations on campus, holding leadership positions in two organizations, one of which I helped found. I am also very passionate about historical preservation. I have volunteered in the Alabama Department Archives and History and Tuskegee University Archives and made a documentary about a local historian for a class during my undergraduate career. In my spare time I play guitar and enjoy reading nonfiction, particularly histories.

My Public Service Philosophy
Achieving Social Justice through Environmental Protection and Responsible Stewardship
If I were to pick the two concepts that matter to me the most they would be Social Justice and Environmental Preservation. As I have completed my studies in the Master’s of Public Administration program at Auburn, I have learned that these goals are not as separate as they may seem. I was allowed to choose my own topics for research projects and where I completed my internship, and I used both opportunities to conduct research that I felt would further my career. In doing so, I have learned that those who are most effected by environmental degradation are often those of lesser means and people of color. During my internship, I learned that the cheapest homes are often those near highways. The homeowners may think that the discount they received was due to the noise from the traffic, but I also learned that the diesel fumes that fill the air they breathe contain nitrous oxide particles that cause asthma and other ailments and may even lower their life expectancy. Therefore, by reducing diesel emissions, you improve the wellbeing of those who live in the many low-income housing units that are located near major highways. Programs such as SNAP and renewable energy subsidies are important to achieving social justice by serving those in need and reducing pollution. However, all the good the programs may achieve can be forgotten by the public if the program is administered in such a way that causes scandal. Public Service means making decisions in accordance with the law, and responsibilities of the administrator.
